OwlCrate January 2018 Review: “Fearsome Fairy Tales”

Hello, and Happy New Year! It’s that time again! Time for another OwlCrate review. This month’s theme is Fearsome Fairy Tales, and the box is filled with all sorts of cool goodies from inspired classic tales such as Sleeping Beauty, Hansel & Gretel, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood and more!

OwlCrate is a monthly subscription of books. Each OwlCrate contains one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3 to 5 other bookish items that all match with the monthly theme. My daughter loves reading and getting the cute items that go with her books each month. This really helps her discover new authors and find others books to read.

OwlCrate always provides information cards. The information cards tell a little about all the items that are in that month’s box along with little comments on why they were selected. It is always decorated to go along with that month theme. My daughter doesn’t read it right away she likes to be surprised with what is in the box.

The book of the month uses an Exclusive OwlCrate cover. In this case ,The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Here is a quick summary of the book I found on Amazon.

“An instant New York Times bestseller!”

“By #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, the first book in a stunning new series about a mortal girl who finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue.”

Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Being a Owlcrate exclusive cover there’s always something different than the original cover. I’m sure you can see, They are  completely different from each other. My daughter actually liked the original cover.

This book also comes with a letter from the author. My daughter was super excited because every book will be SIGNED by this beloved author! That’s right…no bookplate this time…the book itself is actually signed!

First thing out the box was this beautiful sticker that has a quote from this months book. It says” There’s Always Something Let To Lose” Its also a Owlcrate Exclusive.

Stella’s Bookish Art made an exclusive design for Owlcrate and turns out it’s a pillowcase! Wow, I don’t think Owlcarte has ever given out a pillowcase before. My daughter just loves it. It’s inspired by Sleeping Beauty, and it’s so pretty she’s afraid to wash it. Hopefully it doesn’t fade.

Next, is a cute Owlcrate exclusive mini wax warmer. It comes with a Hansel and Gretel inspired soy wax melts made by Spireside Candles. Its smells so good. It smells just like gingerbread cookies. The wax warmer has a beautiful cracked design with star shapes cut out. You can use this warmer with the melts or essential oils.

Authored Adornments provided this adorable bracelet which has a line from Rapunzel. You can also take off the small pendent and just use it like that. Unfortunately when my daughter was trying it on the clasp broke right off.

She also received a art print by Anne Lambelet. It’s inspired by Red Riding Hood. My daughter has a corkboard where she hangs all the art prints she has received.

Each Month OwlCrate sends a pin to go along with the theme of the month. This is the Fearsome Fairy Tales pin.

Here’s the copy of the OwlCrate newsletter with interviews and other cool stuff to do like crossword puzzle.

Next month, February ’s theme is “Hidden Worlds”  and will have times from stories such as The Chronicles of Narnia, Coraline, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Alice in Wonderland and more! There will also be an extra large exclusive item from Evie Bookish! Its suppose to be a special item that was never included before. (Psst.. Its not a mug!) My daughter cant wait.
