OwlCrate July 2017 Review: Wanderlust

My daughter received her July’s OwlCrate theme which is Wanderlust. She’s so excited. Yup, another Funko Pop.

Owl Crate is a monthly subscription of books. Each OwlCrate contains one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3 to 5 other bookish items that all match with the monthly theme. My daughter loves reading and getting the cute items that go with her books each month. This really helps her discover new authors and find others books  to read.

OwlCrate always provides information cards. The information cards tell a little about all the items that are in that month’s box along with little comments on why they were selected. It is always decorated to go along with that month theme. My daughter doesn’t read it right away she likes to be surprised with what is in the box.

The book of the month uses an Exclusive OwlCrate  cover. In this case, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, the difference is the images are colored black and blue. The original book is black with yellow. Here is a quick summary of the book  I found on Amazon.

” ‘A hilarious and swashbuckling teen historical fiction novel, named one of summer’s 20 must-read books by Entertainment Weekly! A New York Times bestseller! ‘ “

“A young bisexual British lord embarks on an unforgettable Grand Tour of Europe with his best friend/secret crush. An 18th-century romantic adventure for the modern age written by This Monstrous Thing author Mackenzi Lee—Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda meets the 1700s.
Henry “Monty” Montague doesn’t care that his roguish passions are far from suitable for the gentleman he was born to be. But as Monty embarks on his grand tour of Europe, his quests for pleasure and vice are in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.
So Monty vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.
Witty, dazzling, and intriguing at every turn, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is an irresistible romp that explores the undeniably fine lines between friendship and love.”

The book also comes with a note from the author and signed bookplate.

It comes with a The Gentlemen’s Guide to Europe map.

It comes with this owl Mudpuppy Bag Tag. The owl is so cute and will look great on any bag. In December my daughter will be traveling to Costa Rica with her University and she is already planning on using it for her luggage. On the reverse side it has a place to put your information. This is definitely going to come in handy.

Comes with a stunning little red velvet pouch that houses the mirror. The writing “As Travars” is from a book A Darker Shade of Magic inspired Mirror by Miss Phi. This is a OwlCrate Exclusive book that my daughter will be looking forward to reading.

Each Month OwlCrate sends a pin to go along with the theme of the month. This is the Wanderlust Pin. My daughter has already put it on her duffle bag that she is taking on her trip.

This is the pocket journal by Ooly. This is one of 8 designs. My daughter loves all these little journals that come with some of these boxes. She gave me this particular one to keep track of my product reviews.

This is a Lord of the Rings backpack. She’s not a huge fan of the series, but she really likes the drawstring bag.

Now, what I was mentioning in the beginning of this review. My daughters favorite item from the box. The Funko Pop Newt Scamander Keychain. This is from Fantastic Beasts. This is a stylized collectable keychain that stands 1 1/2 inches tall, perfect for any Fantastic Beasts fan. My daughter put this on her backpack.

Here’s the theme spoiler for the OwlCrate August 2017 box. The theme is Something Wicked This Way Comes…It looks like its going to be a spooky read.

Exciting News!!!! There will be an additional exclusive book from Rock Paper Books in the August box. The August box will be packed with amazing goodies. There are items inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, This Savage Song, and  Harry Potter.

How did you like this month’s theme?  What was your favorite thing in the box? Ready for next month’s Box?
